The Show

Step back in time to the swinging 1960s and immerse yourself in the incredible story of Frank Abagnale Jr., one of the world’s most renowned con artists.

‘Catch Me If You Can: The Musical’ begins with Frank’s capture by the relentless FBI Agent, Carl Hanratty, after years of pursuit. However, Frank believes the audience deserves to hear his version of the truth. So, what unfolds is Frank’s life (and maybe a tad of his imagination), exhibited through a dance-filled variety television show.

As the cameras roll, we are transported into Frank’s world, only to meet a teenager who runs away from his unhappy home, to embark on a life of extraordinary adventure. Through his ingenious ability to assume a multitude of different identities–including an aeroplane pilot, a doctor, and a lawyer–Frank orchestrates daring cons that leaves Agent Hanratty bamboozled, and the audience spellbound.

This fast-paced, rollicking, jazzy musical, offers a unique storytelling experience as Frank narrates his incredible journey using the charm and flair of a captivating TV show, coloured with the flamboyance and rebellion of the 1960s. ‘Catch Me If You Can’ is a thrilling, humour-filled ride that will keep you guessing and entertained from start to finish.

Rehearsals and Commitment

It is the expectation of both the production team and the BMMS committee that everyone involved in this production will be available from the date of their casting through until Closing Night.

To ensure that Catch Me If You Can is a production of the highest quality, and in fairness to all involved, it is important that all cast members are available for all scheduled rehearsals.

We understand that sometimes life gets in the way, so to ensure we can allow for those times where things just happen, all known absences must be disclosed and recorded on your audition form at the time of your audition. It is vital that important rehearsal time is not wasted by an unplanned absence of required cast members.

Absence from rehearsals without notice or a justifiable reason may result in cast members forfeiting their place in the show.

A prerequisite for all cast members is that they need to sign a cast contract with the production team and committee of Blue Mountains Musical Society confirming your agreement with the conditions of being cast in this production.

      Agent Dollar
      • One of four working directly under Carl Hanratty in the Fraud division of the FBI, agent Dollar is a fresh recruit. In the brief glimpses that Dollar has something to say, it becomes increasingly difficult to imagine how they scored their job; they are blissfully ignorant and naive to most things that come their way. Agent Dollar is always a delight.
      Agent Cod
      • One of four working directly under Carl Hanratty in the Fraud division of the FBI, agent Cod is a confident smart-arse that always has something to say, even when it might not be the right thing to say. Agent Cod is not always a delight.
      Agent Branton
      • One of four working directly under Carl Hanratty in the Fraud division of the FBI, agent Branton is dry and straight-forward. Agent Branton is not passionate about many things, especially not their job.
      Ensemble Cast
      • The ensemble cast in “Catch Me If You Can” plays a variety of roles: FBI agents, airline personnel, hospital staff, partygoers, film/tv crew and more. They help create the vibrant world of the 1960s, adding depth and texture to the scenes through their performances.
